Better late than never, right? I realized about halfway through drawing this that I'd never seen Sgt Rock w/o his helmet on, so I've no idea if the hair is right or not. And he certainly doesn't look like Sgt Rock. So this is more random WW2 soldier vs. Nazi sniper than a Sgt Rock piece.

I decided to go with a gritty approach to show the chaos of the battle field. Rock rubs me as the John Wayne to Nick Fury's Clint Eastwood just as tough but Rock is slightly more no nonsense.

I like that the thing which differentiates Sgt. Rock from other comic soldiers is his frequently missing sleeves and various signs of battle damage. Plus his cigarettes distinguish him from Nick Fury.

I experimented with crosshatching to give it a gritty texture. I used a brush pen and a mechanical pen.
